In 1973 The Super Golden Chimes, one of the leading Sinhala pop bands in the country at the time, recorded their first E.P “The Super Golden Chimes at Kataragama”, under the label of Sooriya,. The most popular song in the E.P, Kanda Suriduni, was written and composed by band member Clarence Wijewardena, for Sri Kantha (another band member) who was recovering after having met with an accident.
